COMPANY PROFILE
W.E.Smith Engineering Pty Ltd - 85 Years of Engineering Excellence
| W.E.Smith Engineering Pty Ltd was established in Sydney, Australia in 1922. Its founder Brigadier Walter Edmond Smith had the philosophy to provide a high level of service to his customers and to "do well what other's find difficult". The company has continued this philosophy for 85 years. |
In 1968 the company transferred its operation to a purpose built engineering design and manufacturing facility in Coffs Harbour on the mid north coast of NSW, Australia. The factory has a total covered workshop area of 7000 sq.m serviced by 6 overhead cranes with an individual capacity of up to 63 tonne, a 300 tonne portal crane and heavy lift facility, two specialist CNC multi-spindle drilling machines, fully equipted machineshop and fabrication bays, cleanroom bays and a fully NATA accredited NDT and mechanical testing laboratory. |
| The configuration of the factory enables all aspects of heat exchanger and vessel manufacture to be undertaken within the facility. This includes thermal & mechanical design through to CNC drilling, machining, pressing and plate rolling to 150mm thickness, fabrication, stress relief, tube to tubesheet welding, testing, NDT and final surface treatment for heat exchangers and vessels up to 300 tonne and 70m overall length. |
The continued development of quality systems and welding technology within WESE has enabled the company to establish itself as a premier supplier of S&T heat exchangers and specialist vessels and columns throughout Australia and internationally. This experience and capability has included equipment manufactured in sophisticated materials such as CrMo, 5% Cr, stainless steels, duplex & super-duplex stainless steels, titanium, incoloy, hastelloy, zirconium, non-ferrous materials, clad materials and heavy wall thicknesses (to 200mm). |
W.E.Smith Engineering Pty Ltd has also undertaken significant development of patented "flush batten strip" technology for application in titanium clad autoclaves and pressure vessels. This again has continued the philosophy of the company's founder in 1922 to provide a high level of service to industry and to "do well what others find difficult".
